Acetaminophen Dosages

Conversion Note: 5 ml = 1 tsp. We dose acetaminophen based on a child’s weight. We included the age category because that makes it easier to find your child’s position on the chart. 

Age 1-3 mos

Weight 8-11 lbs
then you should give:
  • 1.25ml Infant’s Suspension (40 mg / 1.25 ml)

Age 4-11 mos

Weight 12-17 lbs
then you should give:
  • 2.5ml Infant’s Suspension (40 mg / 1.25 ml)

Age 12-23 mos

Weight 18-23 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 3.75ml Infant’s Suspension (40 mg / 1.25 ml) –OR–
  • ¾ tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml)

Age 2-3 yrs

Weight 24-35 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 5.0ml Infant’s Suspension (40 mg / 1.25 ml) –OR–
  • 1 tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  • 2 tabs Chewable Tablets (80 mg)

Age 4-5 yrs

Weight 36-47 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 1-½ tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  •  3 tabs Chewable Tablets (80 mg)

Age 6-8 yrs

Weight 48-59 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 2 tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  • 4 tabs Chewable Tablets (80 mg) –OR–
  • 2 tabs Junior Strength Chewable Tablets (160 mg)

Age 9-10 yrs

Weight 60-71 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 2-½ tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  • 5 tabs Chewable Tablets (80 mg) –OR–
  • 2-½ tabs Junior Strength Chewable Tablets (160 mg)

Age 11 yrs

Weight 72-95 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 3 tsp Children’s Suspension (160 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  • 6 tabs Chewable Tablets (80 mg) –OR–
  • 3 tabs Junior Strength Chewable Tablets (160 mg)

  • 1.25ml Drops (50 mg / 1.25 ml)

  • 1.875ml Drops (50 mg / 1.25 ml)

Age 2-3 yrs

Weight 24-35 lbs
then you should give either:
  • 1 tsp Suspension (100 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  •  2 tabs Chewable Tablets (50 mg)

Age 4-5 yrs

then you should give either:
  • 1-½ tsp Suspension (100 mg / 5 ml) –OR–
  •  3 tabs Chewable Tablets (50 mg)

Age 6-8 yrs
